The answer might surprise you. The AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) recommends that kids see the dentist whenever their first tooth comes out, or when they turn 1 year old.
Do you have an older child who hasn’t yet seen the dentist? That’s okay! The best time to start is now. The sooner you bring your kids to The Little Royals: Dentistry For Kids, the sooner they can get the dental care they need. Contact us today to get started if you are located in Jupiter or Palm Beach Gardens.
If your child is very young (1-2 years) and does not yet have most of their teeth, we’ll usually do a “lap exam.” You can hold your child in your lap, and one of our team will clean their teeth and gums individually. Then, Dr. Yasi or Dr. Sal Colombo will examine your child’s mouth, and answer any questions you may have about their oral development.
For older kids (2-3 or older) who have most or all of their baby teeth, we’ll do a standard cleaning, which will be just like the teeth cleanings adults get. One of our hygienists will gently remove plaque and tartar from your child’s teeth, buff their teeth with a high-powered toothbrush, and floss between their teeth.
Then, Dr. Yasi or Dr. Sal Colombo will examine their mouths. We may also recommend x-rays if we deem them to be necessary, and you approve them. Then, Dr. Yasi or Dr. Sal will discuss your child’s oral health with you, and let you know if they need any further treatment.
Yes! Regular dental visits are especially important for young children. This makes sense when you think about how quickly your child is growing, and how quickly they can develop in just six months.
Seeing a dentist like Dr. Sal or Dr. Yasi Colombo every six months for a teeth cleaning and oral exam has a number of benefits. First, your child’s teeth will be cleaned to ensure they’re healthy and bright. We’ll also be able to check for cavities, and use x-rays and oral exams to look for any signs of potential oral development issues. By seeing us for regular six-month cleanings, you’ll get peace of mind, and know that your child’s mouth is healthy!
